Love is....

They met under a clock at Waterloo and a week later he told her that "love had arrived on the 12.37 from Weybridge."
Fast-forward several weeks and they decided that they had to get married.
Which was why their wedding cake (made by me) looked like this....

Here is the bridal party at Weybridge Register Office. (The music was great).

And the eclectic assortment of bridesmaids (I'm in there, somewhere) - all wearing black!

Heather and Terry - I wish you every happiness for the future.

And readers, what is your opinion on whirlwind romance?

  1. How romantic! Just lovely. What a fabulous cake, too.

Congratulations to your friends, and every happiness.

As for whirlwind romance... Perhaps I should confess that Gerry proposed within two weeks of meeting me. Mind you, we didn't get engaged until I'd finished uni and we'd bought a house (this was the 1980s' property boom, so we decided to be practical - and no WAY was I getting engaged in my teens), and I stalled on marriage until we had a garden and a dog. (Yeah, yeah, priorities. Who'd believe I was a romantic author, hmm? *g*)

We've been together 25 years this year. And if our plans work out, we're going to do something really romantic to celebrate :o)

  2. The cake is marvellous and you're very talented! I love the symbolism you chose to make it.
Whirlwind romance... I do believe in it -though cynical people do everything to destroy this myth! It isn't something that you only read in a book or watch in a film - the "right moment at the right time" can change your whole life in a minute and when you meet the right person... you know. Decisive is a glance, a word, also silence... and suddenly you can find yourself choosing the wedding dress after several weeks (as your friends' case). And differently people who have been together for 7 or 8 years are horrified to the word "marriage".
Dante Alighieri was a genius when he wrote: "L'amore move il sole e l'altre stelle" - meaning "Love moves Sun and Other Stars" - and in a minute can change your world.

  3. Great cake and a great day had by all!

I met my DH2b at work when he joined as a new member of staff and within 4 weeks we were an item and living together! 11 years later we are getting married - in March 2010 - I kept putting him off every time he asked bless him - but his resilience finally paid off when I finally agreed to marry him. So yes I do believe in love at first sight - I've just been a bit slow in actually tying the knot! Take care. Caroline x

  7. Congratulations to the Happy Couple! What a great way to start the New Year.

Sharon the cake looks brilliant. Is there no end to your talents?

As for me and whirlwind romances - I believe. The first time I saw my husband I just knew and he was the one and this year we will celebrate 17 years of marriage.

  8. Great Cake, Sharon. And best wishes to the happy couple. Yes, I think love at first sight can happen. But it's the follow-through that matters.
