EMUN ELLIOTT & THE LURE OF A BEARD

Still on the subject of hero inspiration - I've finally found a man who can make a beard look attractive.  No.  Forget that understatement of the century.  Who can make a beard look absolutely bloody amazing.  Emun Elliott is that man and the charismatic star of the BBC costume drama, The Paradise which I've been completely hooked by and which you can read about here.

Sadly, the programme has just finished its run but catch it if you can.  It's a superb example of gripping sexual tension and intense romance - portrayed with little more than longing looks, punctuated by kisses which seem almost chaste but are packed full of emotion.

I've never written a hero with a beard before (other than the mystery beard which turned up on Titus Alexander on the UK cover of BACK IN THE HEADLINES)
But Mr Elliott has made me rethink my strategy.

Would you like to read about a man with dark, soulful eyes like his - even if he has the kind of jaw which has no real relationship with a razor?

  1. The eyes a definite yes ! But the jawline not having a relationship with a razor NO, again that is just me and all has their own likes and dislikes but for me I really cannot wrap my mind around the idea of a hero with a unshaven jawline smooth is my kind ,it also give that open appearance (hard to describe) but it is like you can "see " more than just the clean shaven face. I hope I made sense. Thanks again for sharing with us.

  2. No. Even though I think Mr Elliott is true inspiration, I can't imagine writing a bearded hero Desere. I would just keep imagining his rough bristles chaffing at her delicate skin!

  3. It's just a shame they made him lose his lovely, native Edinburgh accent for the role of John Moray (perhaps they just didn't want both Denise and Moray to be Scots). I couldn't for the life of me work out where he was supposed to be from, his accent kept wandering all over the place.

I'm very glad to hear that a second series of "The Paradise" has been commissioned.

    1. Ooh, didn't realise a second series has been commissioned. I wonder if we we will see him and Denise lose everything (except of course, their love)?

I rather liked his accent (he has a very attractive lisp) - but would have been equally happy if it had been Scottish!

  4. It's true - it's rare to read about a hero with a beard (also out of Presents) - and I've never thought if I like them or not.
If I love the hero (physically and mentally) I don't really keep thinking "Gosh.. but he has a beard!".
I remember that once I loved a hero who was disfigured but the writer described him in the sexiest way ever. He was perfect, expect for a part of his face. Of course the heroine was in love with him.
One-eyed pirates can be good-looking too!
Now...I know that a missing eye and scars can't be compared to a simple beard but the point is that if we love the hero we love every detail about him.
Emun Elliott isn't bad but only Ryan Gosling makes my heart beat faster! - (with or without beard).
